CENTRAL GROUP – UK ADULT SCOUT ALLIANCE

Members of the Central Group of the UK Adult Scout Alliance met at the Tynedale Function Suite, Hexham, on Saturday 28 April 2007 prior to the Annual General Meeting of the UK Adult Scout Alliance.

As Central Group Co-ordinator, Beryl Aldridge, welcomed those present and thanked them for attending.

Terms of Reference – Beryl explained that it was necessary for the Central Group to have its own Terms of Reference, as it may at some time be looked at by the ISGF, as Central Group is listed as a component Group in the UK ASA Constitution.

Beryl presented her **report and thanked members for their hard work over the last year.

Members of the Central Branch of the UK ASA Committee visited the proposed venue for next year's Annual General Meeting in Hexham, Northumberland, at the end of November to confirm arrangements.

They stayed at The Swallow George Hotel, Chollingford, and visited the Tyne Dale Function Suite where the Annual General Meetings, Dinner with a Roman Theme will be held.

On the Saturday afternoon they took the opportunity of the chance to walk the route 30 Scouts had taken when they attended Baden Powell's first camp.  They were able to visit the Cairn on the site of the Camp.  On Sunday they visited the Roman Encampment of Housteads and Hadrian's Wall - National Trust property.

Beryl Aldridge, Central Branch Facilitator, and Sheila Staines set out towards the Cairn.

Dave Mowbray (our host and guide for the weekend), Beryl Aldridge, Brian and Sheila Staines pause at the start of the walk to the Cairn.

Success - we have reached the Cairn with its plaques.

In true Scouting spirit the visit was made during the winter and the weather obliged with wind and gales, which we understand is not typical at the end of April 2007.

The following day it was bright and sunny when we visited the Roman Encampment at Housteads.

The Cracow Region of The Polish Scouting and Guiding Association would like to invite you to the 6th AISG – ISGF European Conference. The conference will take place in Cracow from 20th till 24th of June 2007.

6th AISG – ISGF European Conference will be a great opportunity to talk about important subjects for ISGF with members of all European Associations. It will be also a unique chance to discover one of the most beautiful cities in Poland and its surrounding area. Cracow has a rich history and it’s called the cultural capital of Poland. It is also a city which has always been strongly connected to the history of Polish Scouting and Guiding.

In this letter we provide participants with the basic information about the programme and payment details. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

ISGF Info Center at the Jamboree

ISGF has allowed the Region Europe to run the ISGF Info Center at the Jamboree.  We will be located at the Plaza with others and we expect visitors the whole day. Our aim is to show ISGF, its activities, its benefits for our members and for the Scout and Guide Movement.  For this reason we need a staff and so I invite interested persons to apply. It’s a job, unpaid, not thanked and full of criticism (usually afterwards) but very interesting I can assure you.

The ISGF Info Center staff member:  Should have a basic knowledge of English so we can communicate between us. The more languages we can cover in our team the better!  Guild experience and knowledge is essential. There will be an extensive briefing of the staff before July 2007 and at the Jamboree itself. Staff will be sleeping in tents at the IST area.

Interested persons will receive more details when they send an e-mail me: weilguny.werner@tele2.at.

Please apply before Sept 30, 2006  -  Werner Weilguny e.h. - Chairman of the ISGF Region Europe

The Scout&Guide Flame from Nyeri to Brownsea Island

by Rigmor Lauridsen and Mario Sica

Short description of the idea

A flame lit on B.-P.’s grave in Nyeri, Kenya, symbolising the B.-P. spirit and at the same time being “The Flame of Peace 2007”, will start from Nyeri on Thinking Day (22 February) 2007 and will be carried – by walking/biking and other surface means – by guides/scouts/guild members all the way to Brownsea Island where it should arrive by 31st of July 2007 as part of the Centenary celebrations. When the fire has burned down, all countries with scouting/guiding will get a box with the ashes deriving from The Flame of Peace 2007 and symbolising the spread of the B.-P. spirit throughout the world.
